What is high blood pressure?
High blood pressure is a condition that puts you at an increased risk of heart attack, stroke or kidney disease. It does not usually cause symptoms but it can cause serious problems. High blood pressure may be caused by being overweight, smoking, a diet high in fats and salt, heavy use of alcohol, lack of activity, stress, aging or family history.
What are the symptoms of high blood pressure?
High blood pressure usually has no symptoms but headaches are common.
What is the treatment for high blood pressure?
You have a lot of control over your own blood pressure including losing weight, choosing a diet low in fats and high in fruits, vegetables, low-fat dairy products and low salt, doing something active for at least 30 minutes per day and reducing your intake of alcohol.
